The Miracle Minute
Achieving More Comfort Within
August 16, 2008
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Walt Whitman, American poet, said, "I exist as I am, that is enough.
If no other in the world be aware, I sit content. And, if each and all
be aware, I sit content."
Walt Whitman was completely comfortable within his own skin. His level
of self-acceptance becomes apparent to us when we see clearly that all
of the bad, ugly and stupid things we've done are not who we are, just
things that we've done. Who we are is a highly creative person battling
with clouds of doubt.
If you are still dealing with self-doubt and want to achieve greater
comfort, please consider the following:
Clear Observations -- No person is perfect, and every person has had
ugly issues to deal with. AA was a powerful eye-opener for me. It helped
me to see that I wasn't the only narrow-minded, self-centered person who
ever tried to fool the world.
Complete Forgiveness -- Anger and ill will are like hot burning coals.
The longer we hold on to these old feelings the more damage gets done.
To achieve peace of mind we must let go of anger and guilt.
When I first climbed out of my cesspool of frustration and despair, self-honesty
and forgiveness were the fastest paths.
And, what helped me the most: "What right do I have to condemn others
when I have made so many mistakes of my own?"
